Volunteer Opportunities with Mid-South Pride
Volunteer Positions
Planning and coordinating the most colorful weekend of the year takes a village of talented and dedicated volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to learn or develop skills, teach skills to others, build self-esteem and confidence, and contribute to a better, stronger community. Mid-South Pride has expanded exponentially in the last few years, and our doors are always open for volunteers at every skill level.
We currently have 9 teams that are assigned to specific areas of planning, development, and production. Below is a list of those teams, and their responsibilities:
- Organize festival layout and resources (ex: stage, beer, booth, etc)
- Recruit and track festival participants
Develop festival information literature - Sub Group – Entertainment Team
- Recruit and select festival entertainment
- Transport and host entertainment
- Organize and maintain stage schedule and entertainers
- Secure and operate stage resources (ex sound, equipment, etc
- Recruit and select festival entertainment
- Transport and host entertainment
- Organize and maintain stage schedule and entertainers
- Secure and operate stage resources (ex sound, equipment, etc)
- Recruit Sponsor for the VIP area of the Festival
- Organize and set up the VIP area
- Secure caterer, alcohol, and other necessary items
- Create and recruit Swag Bag / VIP item
- Produce Fundraisers to raise money to pay for the annual Pride Festival and Parade
- Create Special Events to enhance Community Outreach
- Produce the Annual Mister & Miss Mid-South Pride Pageant
- Organize parade line up
- Recruit and track parade participants
- Coordinate street security
- Obtain city permit(s) for the parade
- Communicate with Beale St Merchants and Police
- Coordinate St. Patricks Day Parade participation
- Coordinate Christmas Parade participation
- Recruit businesses for sponsorships, festival and parade participation, and goods and services
- Network with businesses to build brand awareness for Mid-South Pride
- Advise Mid-South Pride regarding business outreach
- Overall responsibility is to raise money to pay for the annual Pride Festival and Parade
- To engage all faiths in support of Mid-South Pride
- Build relationships with multi-cultural communities
- Recruit faith and cultural groups and businesses as sponsors, booths, parade entries, and entertainment
- Recruit people to carry the Multi-Faith flag in the parade
- Create and product on all printed and internet materials
- Create and produce ads and artwork
- Manage/create website content
- Maintain and build our brand
- Board members have a responsibility to ALL of our community.
- Attend monthly board meetings and events.
- Be actively involved and engaged in budgets, organizational decisions, and issues.
- Create, plan, and organize events, as well as the annual Festival and Parade.
- Serve as the steering committee for the various sub-committees
- Represent the organization and serve as a spokesperson.
