Parade Rules & Regulations

Please review the Parade Rules and Regulations prior to lineup.

Safety Precautions

You will be in the sun for at least 2 hours, so bring water and take the necessary precautions to be sure you don’t overheat. Your pets will also be doing A LOT of walking, so please shield  their paws from the hot pavement and take the recommended precautions to keep them safe from the heat. Also, keep pets on a leash and be sure to clean up behind them.

Do Not Engage with Protesters

The law protects the right to free speech in public spaces, and since the parade is free to the public, protesters are within their rights to demonstrate and express themselves during the celebration. However, Engaging with protesters can trigger aggression and escalate tensions, which puts everyone’s safety at risk.  Please be courteous to your fellow pride-goers by not engaging with protesters.

LIneup Time & Location

Line-up Begins by checking in at the parade tent, located at the corner of 4th and Beale Street, adjacent to the main entrance of the festival. (Get Directions)

Lineup Instructions

NOTE: Lineup Coordinators and volunteers will be stationed at the parade tent, and moving about the staging area wearing neon-pink Pride Volunteer T-Shirts and/or volunteer lanyards.

  1. At the check-in tent, a lineup coordinator will provide an Entry Details sheet with your bio (if provided at registration), which will be read by the Emcee to help Judges identify you in the lineup.
  2. The lineup coordinator will also confirm if your entry includes a vehicle, and instruct you in which area your unit number should line up.
  3. If you did not not complete the Parade Registration form, or if you registered after the lineup was finalized, your entry may not appear in the Lineup Sequence. Notify the Lineup Coordinator at check-in if that is the case.
  4. Once you receive your Entry Details sheet, please proceed to the staging area as instructed by the lineup coordinator.

Step-Off Instructions

  1. For safety reasons, the Memphis Police requires walking and rolling groups to line up in seperate areas. This means that units will not step off in exact numerical order as rolling and walking groups are staggered into position at the step-off point. So watch the lineup crew closely as they will give cues when it is your turn to step-off.
  2. The director will greet you at the step-off point with final instructions before giving you the green light to step-off.
  3. Less than one block down the parade route, on the left-hand side, a runner will be waiting to collect your entry details card and deliver it to the Emcee.
  4. The emcee will use this card to announce your group to the audience, and help the judges identify you in the lineup.
  5. Do not stop in front of the Judges for more than 15 to 20 seconds. (Keep the procession moving)
  6. After you pass by the judge’s stage, you will proceed 3 more blocks to the end of the route at Main street.

Returning to the Festival

At Main Street, rolling and walking groups will exit in opposite directions to return to the festival area as follows:
